Things To Do at Disney World: Disney World for Adults on a Girls Trip

I thought Disney World was for kids.
Okay… maybe not completely for kids, but I definitely didn’t expect my first trip to Disney World as an adult to become one of the most unexpectedly emotional travel experiences I’ve had.
This trip was a girls trip for one of my friend’s birthdays, and if there is anybody qualified to lead an adult Disney trip… it is her. She goes to Disney World at least twice a year and she knows the system, understands the strategy, understands the apps, understands the expectations, and most importantly… understands Disney culture. Meanwhile, this was my very first time stepping into Disney World in Orlando, Florida. I was simply excited to let my inner little girl come outside and play.
Before we even got to the magic, there was preparation involved. And if you are planning Disney World for adults, let me tell you now… preparation matters more than I realized.
I had to download the Disney app, understand tickets, figure out passes, coordinate plans, and mentally prepare myself for spending money because baby… Disney is not cheap. I flew into Orlando International Airport and decided to stay at a Marriott hotel instead of staying on one of the Disney resorts. Personally, for my trip, that made sense. We were only doing 48 hours in Orlando for the birthday celebration and I didn’t feel like I needed the expensive resort experience for such a short stay. I wanted a nice, clean hotel, somewhere comfortable, and honestly… we were going to spend the majority of our time out exploring anyway. The rest of the girls stayed together at an Airbnb while I arrived separately. Once it was time, I drove over to Disney World Magic Kingdom, paid about twenty dollars for parking, and officially began my first Disney World experience as an adult.
Planning for Disney World
One of the first things I learned about Disney World for adults is this: Having somebody with you who actually knows Disney World is almost a necessity. I’m serious. If you are doing an adult Disney trip and someone in your group already understands the rides, the layout, the planning, and the strategy… your life will be easier.
Another thing I learned very quickly? Comfort matters. If you are researching things to do at Disney World or planning Disney trips for adults, bring a fanny pack or a small backpack. Trust me on this one. You do not want to spend all day carrying random items in your hands while walking through Disney.
Bring hand sanitizer.
Bring sunscreen.
Bring an extra portable battery charger because your phone will be working overtime between photos, videos, maps, apps, reservations, and capturing memories.
Bring comfortable shoes.
Bring patience.
And bring money.
Because once you enter Disney World… everything starts adding up. Food is expensive.
Snacks are expensive. Souvenirs are expensive. Disney is magical… but Disney is also very grown financially. One thing I will absolutely recommend if you’re wondering about Disney World for adults is going during a season when school is still in session. We went during spring. The weather was warm but manageable. It was not scorching hot Florida summer heat. It was not overwhelmingly rainy. There were definitely children there because… obviously… it’s Disney World… but it didn’t feel as chaotic or overcrowded as I imagine peak family season would feel. For adults wanting a girls trip experience, I actually thought the timing worked beautifully. And we went on a Monday.
Now let’s talk about one of my favorite parts of this entire experience. The birthday girl assigned every single one of us a Disney princess. And honestly? That detail made the trip feel so much more personal and fun. Each girl represented a different princess based on personality. Mine? Princess Tiana. And when my friend explained why she chose Tiana for me… I loved it even more. She told me she sees Tiana in me because I’m a business owner, because I’m ambitious, because I go after what I want, and because I’m willing to work for the vision no matter how long it takes. If you know Princess Tiana’s story… that connection actually makes perfect sense. Tiana was not waiting around hoping life would hand her something.
She worked.
She dreamed.
She pushed.
She built.
As an entrepreneur who opened my own business, that felt deeply relatable.
So yes… I fully committed. I had my Princess Tiana shirt. My matching Disney ears.
My green skirt. The whole look. And honestly… it made the experience even more fun stepping into the theme of it all.
Things To Do at Disney World for Adults
Now let me make something very clear before we discuss rides. I am not a roller coaster person. At all.
Not a little bit.
Not secretly.
Not “sometimes.”
Roller coasters and me are not naturally in a relationship.
One of the first rides I remember getting on was “It’s a Small World. ”Now… listen… I understand why people love it. I understand the nostalgia. But those dolls moving in perfect synchronization while singing “It’s a Small World” over and over? Slightly creepy. I said what I said. But then we moved on to Pirates of the Caribbean… …and THAT became one of my favorite rides. I loved the immersive atmosphere, the details, the adventure energy of it. For me, it was one of the best things to do at Disney World because it felt entertaining without completely testing my survival instincts. Unfortunately… survival instincts would still be tested later. Because eventually…we reached Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. And let me remind you again…I already told everyone I am not a roller coaster person. The entire time I saw that ride… I was nervous. People kept mentioning the drop. The anxiety was building. My confidence was declining. But then I had a conversation with myself. "Girl…You are literally Princess Tiana today. "You cannot wear the Tiana outfit… represent entrepreneurial excellence… and refuse Tiana’s ride. So I got on it. And when I tell you…I got soaked. Not lightly splashed. Not slightly damp. Drenched. Completely baptized by Disney water. But honestly? I’m glad I did it. Because sometimes the best parts of travel happen right outside your comfort zone.
One of the things to do at Disney World that surprised me more than I expected was simply stopping to experience the parade. As an adult, I didn’t realize how much joy there was in just standing there watching the characters, the music, the costumes, Mickey, Minnie, and all the princesses come through. There was something nostalgic about it that immediately takes you back to childhood imagination. You are looking around seeing adults, kids, families, friends… everybody smiling at fictional characters like they just saw celebrities. And honestly? I got it.
Disney knows how to create an atmosphere where you temporarily stop thinking about regular life and fully lean into the experience. Seeing the parade, the characters, and all the themed details throughout the park made the day feel bigger than just rides and food. It felt immersive. It felt playful. It felt like permission to be excited again without overthinking it.
How To Save Money at Disney World
One thing I quickly learned about Disney World for adults is that you do not have to do everything the most expensive way to still have a great experience. Since our trip was only about 48 hours in Orlando, I chose to stay at a Marriott instead of booking one of the Disney resorts. For me, it made sense. I wanted a clean, comfortable hotel without paying premium resort pricing when most of my day was going to be spent inside Disney anyway.
Timing also played a huge role in enjoying the experience. Going during spring while school was still in session felt like the sweet spot. The weather was warm without feeling unbearable, there were definitely families and kids there, but it never felt overwhelmingly crowded. If you’re planning an adult Disney trip, I genuinely think timing can make a huge difference in your overall experience. And let’s be honest… Disney is expensive. That is just part of the conversation. My best advice? Budget realistically before you arrive. Know you’re going to spend money on food, snacks, parking, and little impulse purchases you suddenly convince yourself are emotionally necessary because you’re standing in Disney World.
Is Disney World Worth It for Adults? My Honest Experience
Before this trip, I understood Disney from the outside looking in. I knew people loved it. I knew adults returned year after year. But I never fully understood why… until I experienced Disney World as an adult myself. For me, the magic was not simply the rides. It was the atmosphere. It was laughing with friends on a themed girls trip, committing fully to my Princess Tiana moment, seeing the characters, walking through the park, and allowing myself to stop being “productive” for one day and simply enjoy being present.

Travel teaches you different things in different places. Some destinations teach you history. Some teach you culture. Disney unexpectedly reminded me how easy it is to lose touch with joy as adults.
The Disney Fireworks That Healed My Inner Child
Out of everything I experienced at Disney World, nothing affected me more than the fireworks.
Not the rides.
Not the food.
Not even Pirates of the Caribbean… and I genuinely loved Pirates of the Caribbean.
The fireworks were the moment.
Watching the castle light up, hearing the music fill the night sky, seeing Tinker Bell fly overhead… it felt bigger than entertainment. During the Aladdin portion especially, I found myself unexpectedly emotional. There was something about the music, the lights, the atmosphere, and the collective feeling of wonder surrounding everyone watching together. For a few minutes, adulthood got quiet. No business decisions. No deadlines. No pressure to perform or achieve or fix something. Just imagination. Just joy. Just being completely present. I remember looking up at the sky and thinking about childhood dreams, my parents, and how beautiful it is that we can still experience awe as adults if we actually allow ourselves to. If someone asked me today, “Is Disney World worth it for adults?” my honest answer would be yes — but maybe not for the reason you expect.
Yes, go for the rides.
Yes, go for the food.
Yes, go for the themed fun and the girls trip memories.
But also… go for the reminder that your inner child still deserves experiences too.
